Mitchelstown Veterinary Hospital describes itself as a certified Veterinary Hospital and offers routine pet care alongside broader medical/surgical work. The website highlights vaccinations, neutering, “all medical and surgical procedures,” a cattery, and professional grooming.
From the latest written reviews available, owners commonly mention successful treatment for cats and ongoing care for multiple pets, and one review specifically names Sandra Spratt for long-term support (including end-of-life support). However, there is also a detailed negative account centred on the cattery stay: concerns about staff communication at drop-off/booking, inconsistent pricing quoted/charged, missing items (collar/tag and toys), and a skin issue diagnosed as ringworm after collection.

My dogs who got as puppies were looked after so well be Sandra Spratt and her great team. I was always given the best advice and care, also the best support when sadly saying goodbye to our much loved dogs. You need to have total faith in your vet and I 100% do.

We left our two kittens in the care of Spratts over Christmas – from Friday to Wednesday. We were told we could not get them back earlier (Monday or Tuesday) as there would be only a vet “in and out”. I dropped the kittens off and the receptionist was very dismissive, cold and rude – I said hello to her twice and she did not answer me either time, just looked at me. She had also been very abrupt on the telephone when I booked them in. We agreed on the phone the cost was €10 per cat per night which would be €100. When my wife collected them on the Wednesday a young staff member asked for €240 as she didn’t know how long they were there but then asked for €110. They did not require proof of vaccination (both are vaccinated). Our youngest kitten came out without his collar and tag which they claimed they could not find due to “too many cats” – if our two kittens were in one unit I don’t understand this. We also didn’t get the two toys we brought with them back. Between toys and collar with tag this was about €40 we were out. Neither my wife or I were offered to see where the cats would be staying which I found very unusual. My wife collected them and they were brought to her in the carry unit and she didn’t see them until she was in the car when she discovered the older kitten had tufts of fur missing from her scalp. She went into the vet who diagnosed ringworm and didn’t charge for the consultation just the cream. An opinion given was that the stress of the cattery may have caused this. At home, both ate a lot and drank a lot and were jumpy and appeared exhausted as they slept more than cats do for a few days. I rang up to see if the collar had been found before we bought a new one and I was informed they could not find it. I don’t understand how it could be lost if they were in a unit together. If there would be no staff there and only a vet “in and out” did this imply the cats were on automatic dry food feeders and had no human contact? As we could not see the area these questions are unanswered. Our male cat seems okay but our female is taking a lot more tlc to recover. Overall we are out an extra €67.50 (extra €10 accommodation, loss of €40 on collar, tag and toys and €17.50 for ointment). We will not be using this facility again.
