My dog Monty was referred here by his vet when she found a mass in his neck. He was seen by Susan. She was very caring and professional to Monty and she explained every procedure thoroughly. She listened to my concerns and she was also very transparant about costs too. Patricia also looked after Monty. I had to bring him in urgently and she was great with him. When Monty had to stay in for scans Susan gave me regular updates on how he was doing which was a relief because I couldnt see him. Sadly Monty passed away Susan and Patricia were very caring and compassionate to Monty during his end of life care which I appreciated so much. I would like to thank Clara who took Montys pawprints. It was such a lovely kind gesture and I am so happy I have them. Overall I had a good experience here, the team were all very kind especially to my dog. I would highly recommend bringing your pet here.
Incredible! Shane Guerin is an amazing world class surgeon who has given beautiful Eile her life back after two tplo surgeries only 12 weeks apart. How lucky Eile was to be referred to this compassionate, talented, gentle and thoughtful surgeon by my own wonderful vet Jer Clancy in Carrick on Suir.
After her first tplo Eile quickly recovered but then developed lameness in her other hind leg, which is apparently very common after the first. Shane was very careful in making the right diagnosis for her and only operated after thorough consideration and staggered assessment in order to be certain her second cruciate ligament had ruptured. He timed it perfectly and Eile was saved from further damage to her meniscus. I am deeply grateful to him and wonderful compassionate vet Giorgios Paschalides for all the extra care Eile needed, and to all the nursing team for caring for Eile with so much kindness.
The customer care staff at reception are extremely helpful, friendly and kind, and were there to pass on enquiries to the veterinary team and help with any questions about admin and appointments. We were treated with the utmost professionalism and diligence at all times by the whole team.
The hospital has state of the art facilities and I was privileged to be given a tour of this centre of excellence which also includes a veterinary teaching and conference centre.
The facilities are really impressive, housed in a very airy large modern building. The state of the art equipment and suites are brand new, high tech and each department seems impeccably hygienic and highly organised. The whole place is designed to be a haven of calm and healing for anxious pets ..and their owners!
I am so grateful to all at Veterinary Specialists Cork how fortunate owners and pets are to have such talent available to us at this incredible facility !
My cat was referred here after suddenly developing a problem using her left rear leg and there was a noticeable lump in the area. A local vet done an xray, made a diagnosis and said best to do nothing as it was scar tissue from an old injury. 2 weeks later, the leg was worse. She had been trying to use it before but was buckling, now it was permanently off the ground. Went back to the local vet for more xrays and was referred here. Susan Murphy done no tests and just repeated what the other vet said. That the lump was scar tissue and the leg problem maybe caused by movement of a metal pin used to repair her leg previously. Asked if the lump could be removed, said no. Asked about ct scan, said it wasn't needed. No blood test, no biopsy. No mention that it could possibly be cancer or something else, was 100% confident the lump was scar tissue and offered to do a surgery to remove the metal pin whilst leaving the 'scar tissue' there. This didn't make sense to me as the pin was in her leg for 7 years so based off what the 2 vets said, we didn't feel our cats life was in immediate danger and didn't do the surgery right away as it had its own risks. Susan said it didn't matter to her when she did the surgery, which showed she grossly underestimated the seriousness of our cats problem as it definitely mattered to my cat when a surgery was done. €500 consultation fee. Approx 2 months later now my cat apparently has 2 weeks to live from what appears to be very aggressive cancer. It has taken over her pelvis and caused her intestines to be backlogged with feces from not being able to defecate properly due to the growth compressing everything in the area. Also developed a bladder infection and apparently kidney failure. When it was brought to Susans attention she said there was no sign of cancer when our cat was there first but that's not true as there is no bigger sign of cancer than a lump. The location and feel of the lump should have made her want to rule out injection site sarcoma. The location of the lump was very dangerous due to how high it was located on her leg/pelvis but Susan did not think it was important to make sure the lump wasn't cancer. This has now caused my cats death and we also paid another €1500 to this vet just to be told there is nothing they can do. The wrong type of CT scan was performed which limited what we could find out about the lump. No biopsy was performed either. You would think for their own knowledge, which clearly seems to be lacking, that they'd want to find out what this lump was and if it could be treated. Instead its just assumed to be worst case scenario whereas at first visit it was assumed to be harmless. When our cat was given back after 1 day stay, she had a catheter+ bag hanging out of her as they said she couldn't urinate, but she was before she went there. What cat wants a bag hanging out its backside? She took it out herself later that night and was urinating by herself for next 2 months until she died. Perhaps it was something to do with the €100+ charge, also charging for things like cage cleanup caused by the cancer they failed to diagnose. Obviously I am very upset and angry. The appropriate thought and time and effort you would expect to receive from a 'specialist' was not put into making a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. Susan should have said that the leg + lump needs to be removed urgently in case it was cancer and my cat would probably still be alive as it not yet spread into her pelvis. The leg was already compromised and the lump was in a very dangerous place so this was the only correct treatment at that time, not what was offered. It was heartbreaking watching my cat go downhill, knowing that if this vet had done their job right that she wouldn't be in this state. I had thought about it being cancer at the time but obviously didn't want it to be and left it to the vets to tell me if it was as surely spotting cancer should be a main priority for them. There's more I want to say but there's a character limit. Check the photos for 2 other complaints.
Our dog, Milli, was diagnosed by Dr. Murphy with malignant mammary tumors. We were very well advised and the entire staff were warm and caring throughout the treatment. We highly recommend Veterinary Specialists Cork. Lynda & Klaus
OUTSTANDING!!
My 3 year old male frenchie presented with IVDD paralysis Thursday 6th, Nov 2025, late afternoon, being aware of the condition, my own vet being away, I knew I had to act fast. I called Vet Specialistics Cork that same evening around 9pm from a google search & had seen good reviews that had experience in this emergency case. I still feel fate intervened to make sure it was this clinic we were meant to go to.
Patricia, the night nurse, spoke indepthly with me on my dogs history, likely diagnosis, surgery options, referall process, cost & boarding. I was reassured in her clear breakdown of everything & we made a case file to expect me in the morning, I was about 2 hours drive away.
Friday 7th November, I was due to get a referral friday morning at 9am when my own vet opened to proceed, however, Dr. Shane Guerin of Vet Specialists Cork contacted me at 8am and said - Don't wait, come now, we'll figure out the paperwork stuff later - and I knew they had seen the casefile the night before and made sure to save me any time and get this seen to immediately. We got straight into the car.
Dr. Geurin & his assistant were so warm in their introductions. He sat on the floor and his focus was to keep our frenchie at ease, while examining his movements for diagnosis and discussing options with us. I was so incredibly impressed with his directness, professionalism, havingsuch softness towards our beloved pet, while speaking to me in such a comforting tone.
Dr. Guerin & his team did the MRI imaging, prepped for surgey & operated on our Frenchie that very same lunchtime.
He was walking that evening! Today is 5 weeks post-op and he has made a FULL recovery!
A massive thank you to the staff and surgeons in Vet Specialists Cork - Your professionalism shone through from your night staff the second I made the call, to your kind receptionist, to all skilled surgeons involved in a successful operation. Its so comforting to know that such skilled people exist & care about beloved animals who are entirely part of the family! You've given my beloved frenchie & I many more years of adventures together!
I could not recommend this place high enough. The care my dog received was second to none and the facilities are very clean and modern. Shane explained everything so clearly and gave a practical demonstration of the surgery he would be performing on my dog. The team is very organised and they communicate very well. They really do care about animals here.
Wonderful dedicated professionals that have your animal's health and happiness foremost in their mind.
Absolutely amazing team. Took brilliant care of my corgi. She needed an MRI done and they gave her great care throughout the entire day. She was super relaxed while we waited.
They efficiently and professionally dealth with a working guide dog.
My 9 and a half year old Bernese Rollo had a visit in May with the wonderful Shane Guerrin at Vet Specialists in Cork to have a ‘Dog Stem’ treatment for his arthritic elbows. It’s a fairly new and much easier stem cell treatment. The appointment went so smoothly with no stress and it’s been a huge success. Rollo is feeling great and the on and off lameness he was getting has completely gone. We are so happy and would absolutely do it again if needed 😁🐶
